5 Top Tips for Healthy Happy Feet
Our feet are very important; they carry us through life, supporting us every day – it is imperative that we look after them. Read our 5 top tips below:
1 Wash your feet every day in warm, soapy water, but avoid soaking them as this can destroy your skin’s natural oils
2 Dry your feet thoroughly, especially in-between the toes, as this is where fungal infections such as athlete’s foot can develop.
3 Trim your toenails regularly; try to cut straight across and not too short, never cut at an angle, as this can cause ingrown toenails.
4 Improve circulation by keeping your feet warm and exercising. Wiggling your toes increases blood flow to the feet, doing so while flexing your ankle back and forth keeps blood flowing to your foot and ankle area, as does sitting with your legs straight and making circles with your feet. Massaging the foot also increases blood flow in the foot area.
5 Change your socks and shoes regularly, using fresh socks daily, and alternating between shoes daily wherever possible to give shoes at least 24 hours to dry out as bacteria thrive in warm, moist conditions. This also reduces the risk of odours.
